Dr. Seidler is the manager of Science & Technology at the IBM Zurich Research Laboratory, where his department works in the areas of semiconductor technology, thermal packaging, optical communications, storage technology, advanced materials processing and characterization, micromechanics, microfluidic-based bioassays, computational biochemistry and materials science, nanotechnology, and the physics of nanoscale systems. 

Dr. Seidler received a B.S. in Chemistry from the California Institute of Technology in 1980 and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley in 1985. 

He then joined Exxon Corporate Research as a Post Doctoral Fellow, where he continued working until 1988 on fundamental chemical and physical studies aimed at the activation of saturated hydrocarbons.

He then moved to the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center as a Research Staff Member in the Physical Sciences Department. 

At IBM he has worked on a variety of scientific studies related to semiconductor processing technology.  After serving a year as Technical Assistant to the Vice President, Systems, Technology and Science for the IBM Research Division, he moved to the Zurich Research Laboratory to manage the Display Technology group. 

Dr. Seidler assumed his present position in August 1998.
